Fairfield mayor Frank Carbone has revealed he has been targeted with death threats, with one email referencing his stance on the resettlement of Islamic fighter brides.

Mr Carbone, who has been the subject of speculation he may stand as a candidate in the upcoming state election, posted on Facebook an image of a threat sent via email.

The email states: “FRANK CARBONE YOU WILL DIE SOON WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO THE ISLAMIC FIGHTER BRIDE ARE NOT FORGIVABLE PREPARE YOUR COFFINE (sic)”.

The social media post states the threats have been reported to the authorities which are investigating.

“These threats can be quite confronting both to me and my family and it is not what is expected or acceptable behaviour for serving our community,” the post states.

“Regardless if people agree or disagree with my views, all leaders should be able to speak freely, represent and fight for their community, without being subjected to such threats.

“I won’t change and will continue to speak up on all matters that are in the best interests of our community.

“These threats only reassure me that standing up against tyrants and for democracy is an important thing we should all do, to stop this forms of intimidation in the first place and to protect our wonderful freedoms we enjoy in this country.”

A Fairfield City council spokesperson told the Fairfield Advance the incident is “a police matter and it has been referred to the police.”

Mr Carbone had been a strong critic about the potential for ISIS brides being resettled in the Fairfield area.

He compared the resettlement of ISIS brides into a highly-populated migrant community as putting “Hitler’s wife in the middle of a Jewish settlement”.

NSW Police said officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command received a report of a threatening email sent to a Fairfield organisation on Tuesday 21 February 2023.

Inquiries are ongoing.
