A MAN has died in after his car collided head on with a bus, making it the second death on southwest Sydney roads in five days, and the second crash in the one street.

A MAN has died in after his car collided head on with a bus, making it the second death on southwest Sydney roads in five days, and the second crash in the one street.

The man is believed to be in his 30s and died at the scene after his car hit the empty bus on Polding St in Fairfield around 6.40am.

Paramedics treated the male driver of the bus for shock.

He has been taken to Fairfield Hospital for mandatory testing.

Fairfield police officers are now investigating the circumstances of the crash and prepare a report for the coroner.

Drivers are urged to monitor livetraffic.com while police examine the scene.

It is the second fatal crash in Fairfield in just five days after a bus driving instructor died in a horrific incident at Fairfield Showground on Thursday.

A bus smashed through a fence during a routine training session and struck the 45-year-old man at a vacant Fairfield Showground carpark at 10am on June 7.

He suffered critical head injuries and died at the scene.

The Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit is investigating.

Man seriously injured after being struck by car in Sydney's west

On Friday a pedestrian was allegedly struck by a car while crossing Polding St in Fairfield Heights.

Police say the man was hit just before midnight and treated at the scene by paramedics before he was taken to Fairfield Hospital in a serious condition.

The male driver was uninjured and also went to Fairfield Hospital for mandatory testing.

Fairfield police are investigating the incident, which left Polding St closed for several hours.
