An infant boy almost died after he was allegedly poisoned several times by his mother. A woman was arrested at a southwest Sydney home and now faces several charges.

A Sydney mother remains behind bars after she allegedly poisoned her infant son on several occasions with prescription medication.
A 20-year-old woman was arrested at a Lurnea home in Sydney’s southwest at 7.30am today and charged with seven counts of using poison to endanger life or inflict grievous bodily harm.
Child Abuse Squad detectives began an investigation after an 18-month old boy was treated for a near-fatal overdose of Tegretol, a prescription medication used to treat epilepsy and neuropathic pain.
Police were told the boy was admitted to Sydney Children’s Hospital with high levels of the drug, which was not prescribed to him, in his system.
Police allege the woman administered the drug to the child contrary to medical instruction.
The child was released from hospital and is now in the care of relatives.
The woman did not apply for bail at Liverpool Local Court today and it was formally refused.
The matter will return to Liverpool Local Court on June 13.
