FAIRFIELD is part of a zone of opportunity outlined in a new report on Sydney’s future.

PricewaterhouseCoopers’ CityPulse Sydney report explores Sydney’s three future cities in the east, centre and west of its suburban sprawl.

It highlights the need for investment in public transport to and from Fairfield.

And as Fairfield Council exhibits its draft plan for turning the showground into a regional sporting and recreational precinct, the CityPulse report recommends investing in encouraging “active living” for western Sydney.

“We support more investment in play,” the report states.

The report’s investigation into Sydney’s future potential highlights an area bounded by Parramatta, Bankstown, Liverpool and Wetherill Park as Sydney’s “zone of opportunity”.

“Across the metrics of live, work and play, this area generally underperforms,” the report says.

“Key transport and infrastructure has not extended beyond Parramatta to Liverpool or Bankstown.”

PwC lists poor connection and socio-economic inequality as issues when it comes to educational institutions, cultural activities and entertainment options.

“We need to regenerate these areas by prioritising investment into key transport, including public transport from the Fairfield area back to the east, and to Liverpool from both Parramatta and Bankstown to spark the renewal of all areas in between,” the report says.

“We will see great benefit from investing in the activation of their open spaces, of which there are plenty, to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities.”

Under opportunities to pursue the PwC CityPulse report recommends the state government develop a Western Sydney Prospectus to attract new businesses to the region.

“We recommend promotion of key industries of the future in and around the WSA (Western Sydney Airport), including agribusiness, defence, aerospace, freight and logistics.
