Car crashes into pole following short police pursuit

POLICE engaged in a short motor vehicle pursuit in Villawood, before the car crashed into a pole.

POLICE have arrested a man following a pursuit in Villawood yesterday afternoon.

About 5.45pm on Monday, police from South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad attempted to stop a vehicle in Belar Ave, Villawood.

Police will allege the vehicle failed to stop and a short pursuit ensued through the streets of Villawood before the vehicle returned to Belar Ave where it crashed into a telegraph pole.

Three occupants of the vehicle got out of the car and surrendered to police with the exception of the driver who allegedly started running from the scene.

Officers gave chase and arrested him a short distance away.

The three male occupants of the car, two aged 18 and one aged 22, were spoken to by police and released at the scene.

The 22-year-old driver was taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment to a suspected fractured nose suffered as a result of the crash.

When released from the hospital it is expected the man will be charged at Bankstown police station with engage in police pursuit (Skye’s Law), drive while licence cancelled, and breach of bail.

A bail determination is yet to be made.
