A man will remain behind bars on remand after police charged him over a haul of stolen tools worth more than $80,000.
Mahmoud Houda appeared via video link at Liverpool Local Court on Monday facing a series of charges after police allegedly recovered the stash of tools at a Canley Heights home on Sunday.
Investigators were first alerted when a man returned to his ute in Canley Vale on Sunday morning to find his power tools had been stolen.
Police will allege in court the man found his tools advertised for sale on social media later that day.
Following inquiries, police arrested Mr Houda at a home in Kiora St, Canley Heights, on Sunday afternoon and executed a search warrant.
Investigators allegedly found a large stash of power tools and construction equipment, which they will allege were stolen, including saws, hammer drills, chainsaws, lawnmowers, surveying equipment, demolition hammers, and six 20-litre buckets containing various hand tools.
The items, valued at more than $80,000, were seized for forensic examination.
Mr Houda was charged with two counts of goods in custody suspected of being stolen, deal with proceeds of crime, attempt to dispose of stolen property, larceny, and enter vehicle without consent of owner.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Today, the court heard the 27-year-old from Canley Heights was on parole at the time of the alleged offences.
He was refused bail by Magistrate Allison Hawkins, who described his criminal history as “not a good one”.
The court heard Mr Houda had a record of predominantly property offences.
The matter was adjourned to June 23 at Fairfield Local Court.
