A Dubbo man wanted on outstanding warrants has fronted court after allegedly leading police on a pursuit in the state’s central west.
Zachary Musgrave, 28, appeared in Dubbo Local Court after he was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly failed to stop for police.
Police allege officers attempted to stop a white Ford Territory on Websdale Drive, Dubbo, to speak with the driver.
It is alleged that Musgrave continued driving, with a pursuit initiated and later terminated a short time later on the Newell Highway.
An abandoned vehicle was located on Darling Street, with officers finding Musgrave inside a nearby unit.
Musgrave was conveyed to Dubbo Police Station and charged with police pursuit and driving a motor vehicle during disqualification period.
Police also executed two outstanding warrants for firearm, drugs and traffic related offences.
The court heard from Musgrave’s lawyer, Tijana Caldwell who submitted a release application on behalf of her client, although no pleas were entered.
Ms Caldwell highlighted Musgrave’s need for release given his ex-partner is due to give birth today, and prior to his arrest it was arranged that he was to be in attendance.
She continued saying Musgrave was open to daily reporting to Dubbo Police Station in conjunction with a curfew from 7pm to 7am or 24-hours if required.
In reply, Magistrate Stephen Olischlager raised “significant concerns” around Musgrave’s willingness to appear in court, noting the seriousness of the charges against him.
With a likely result of a custodial sentence, Mr Olischlager was satisfied that bail shouldn’t be granted.
The matter was adjourned to September 20 in Wellington Local Court for plea or mention.
