Two major women’s golf events in regionals NSWm which helped launch the careers of top young golfers, have fallen foul of coronavirus restrictions.
The 2021 Australian Ladies Classic at Bonville and the NSW Open at Dubbo have been canned due to travel restrictions and the potential for Australian borders to be closed into early to mid 2021.
Botany golfer Stephanie Kyriacou claimed headlines around the golfing world when she raced to an eight-shot victory in the Australian Ladies Classic at Bonville as an amateur.
The win propelled the 19-year-old to go professional with the young talent this year making the cut in her first Major Championship at the AIG Women’s Open and notching top-five finishes in the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and France.
The last NSW Open at Dubbo saw Swedish teenager Julia Engstrom win her maiden title in Australia before going on to further success in Europe”

“It is disappointing for all involved. We rely on international players for the success of both these tournaments, and with travel to our shores out of the question, we had no alternative,’’ said NSW Golf’s Stuart Fraser.
“Regional NSW has played host to these two significant events in past years, and we will sorely miss the excitement they generate.
“When border restrictions ease, we will be working with the LET and ALPG to ensure the tournaments return in 2022.’’
