A correctional centre inmate from the Central West has allegedly been assaulted by a group of four men.
Emergency services were called to a correctional facility in Wellington, following reports an inmate had been assaulted on Tuesday.
On arrival, Orana Mid-Western Police District officers were told that four men – aged 27, 27, 33 and 43 – had allegedly assaulted a 25-year-old man around 2.40pm.
The man was flown to Liverpool Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.
Inquiries are ongoing.
