The close-knit community of Wellington in the NSW central west has been left heartbroken again after two more residents lost their lives in a car crash.
Ashtan Ryan, 27 and his aunty Kylie Gray, 57, died on Saturday after the car they were travelling in reportedly crashed into a tree on the Mitchell Highway at Maryvale, about 40 kilometres east of Dubbo.
Police say a truck driver came across the tragedy shortly before 5am when a call was made to emergency services for assistance.
Both victims died at the scene.
Devastated family members and friends took to social media in the wake of the tragedy to express their shock and sympathy.
Ashtan’s partner Jasmine Gluth said “he made me so happy”.
“I love you with my whole heart and extra,” she posted.
“Please just come home.”
Ashtan’s brother, Craig Ryan, remembered his older sibling as someone who always looked out for him.
“I love you with everything I have, I can’t believe you are gone, you was someone who always had my back,” he wrote.
Ethan Ryan said his younger brother was a “loving, happy and down to earth” guy.
“My little brother, if only you knew how much I wish I would trade places with you, I would do it in less than a heartbeat,” he posted.
Douglas Hill recalled how he could count on his best friend Ashtan “for anything”.
“No matter what the circumstances were, if I ever needed you, you’d be there,” Mr Hill wrote.
“You were not my best friend, you were my brother and now you’re gone I’ve never felt so alone.”
A grief stricken Kanisha Elemes said her aunty Kylie Gray was always there to comfort her.
“I love you aunty Kylie, you will be remembered … I will never forget all the things you’ve done for me,” she wrote.
Allison McCarney posted “fly high in the dream time with our ancestors that will be waiting for you”.
The double tragedy has further devastated the small community of Wellington, which was already trying to come to terms with a series of traumatic incidents which claimed the lives of three young people at the start of the year.
Shane, 7 and Sheldon Shorey, 6, died after a car crashed into them while they were walking on the footpath in Wellington on January 5.
Only two days before that tragedy, Brad Stanley passed away in Dubbo Base Hospital after he was stabbed in Wellington.
After the most recent tragedy, a GoFundMe page was set up to help cover the costs of Ashtan’s funeral and support his partner.
