Two youths have been charged after multiple pursuits through Dubbo overnight.
The arrests were made as part of Operational Regional Mongoose, a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime committed predominantly by young offenders.
Police were patrolling Alcheringa St, Dubbo, about 1.10am on Friday when they attempted to stop a Mitsubishi Triton, due to the manner of driving.
A pursuit was initiated when the vehicle allegedly failed to stop.
The pursuit continued through Dubbo where objects were allegedly thrown from the vehicle and attempts were made to ram police vehicles.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later because of safety concerns.
Soon after, police received reports entry was forced into a business on Rosulyn St and a Kia Rio was stolen about 2.30am.
A short time later police attempted to stop the Kia and Mitsubishi driving in convoy on Baird Dr before initiating another pursuit which was also terminated because of safety concerns.
Police located the Mitsubishi on Mountbatten Dr abandoned around 2.45am. It was seized for forensic examination.
Shortly after, police laid road spikes and the Kia came to a stop on Alcheringa St where multiple people allegedly fled on foot.
Police commenced a foot pursuit and arrested two boys – aged 16 and 17 – before taking them to Dubbo Police Station.
Checks revealed the Mitsubishi was allegedly stolen from a home in Nyngan overnight.
The older boy was charged with aggravated break and enter with intention to steal, stealing a motor vehicle, not stopping during a police pursuit and breaching bail.
The younger boy was charged with aggravated break and enter with intention to steal and being carried in a stolen vehicle.
Both were refused bail to appear at a children’s court on Friday.
Inquiries under Operation Regional Mongoose continue.
