Despite assisting an elderly woman off the floor after startling her by breaking and entering into her house, a western NSW man has learnt that his apology to her is not enough.

Travis Eulo, 41, was charged and arrested in October 2021 with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence and enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence.

The man appeared in Dubbo District Court via a video link on Tuesday to face his sentence after pleading guilty to the two offences.

Judge Karen Robinson convicted Mr Eulo and sentenced him to a three-year and two-month imprisonment commencing on October 21, 2021 with a non-parole period of 22 months.

The offender is eligible for parole on August 20, 2023.

Judge Robinson said Mr Eulo’s “offending behaviour commenced in 2003” and has been regular since then.

“His history shows a number of entries,” Judge Robinson said the offender previously served terms of imprisonment.

She said Mr Eulo stopped drinking at the age of 36 as he noticed it was a contribution to his offending but started experimenting with heroin and methamphetamines after a family loss.

“I accept evidence of remorse, he has repeated his apology and regret,” she said.

The Dubbo News previously revealed Mr Eulo broke into a house on Siren Street the day before his arrest, leaving himself and the victim startled when spotted.

He ran past her, “bumping her”, causing her to lose balance and fall to the floor.

The victim was aged 88-years-old at the time of the offence and was living alone with her dog.

“If you want money, come and help me get up and I will get it for you,” the victim said.

After Mr Eulo helped the victim to her feet, she collected an envelope from her room containing $440 along with money from a tin on her side table, giving it to the offender.

As Eulo was leaving he took a further $40 from a small teapot at the front door, before repeatedly saying “I’m so sorry” to the victim.

According to the documents, it was later revealed that jewellery was also missing from the victim’s house.

In the early hours of the following morning Mr Eulo returned.

The victim’s son who was staying with his mother following the events of the previous night was woken up by “loud thudding noises” at the back of the house.

He noticed furniture had been moved and a screen which had been removed from a window and later called police with the victim’s neighbour offering help with his two dogs to search for Mr Eulo.

After a search of surrounding streets, the neighbour apprehended Mr Eulo who was standing on a roof of an industrial building.

Police arrested him and conveyed him to Dubbo Police Station.

He initially denied his involvement in an interview before revealing himself after being taken to Dubbo Base Hospital.

Mr Eulo told police that he didn’t threaten the victim, saying he told the victim he needed money for his “drug habit”.
