A Cobar woman who attacked a female police officer with a schooner glass and caused injuries so bad she needed to be flown to Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital for plastic surgery has been spared jail.

Teagan Howison had been smoking marijuana and downing rum and coke before she made her way to the Cobar Golf and Bowling Club where her attacks on police took place on July 20 last year.

According to court documents, the 26-year-old worked as a cook at the Empire Hotel and was seen arguing loudly with her mother when a security guard asked her to leave the venue.

Howison said “I’m not going anywhere, go and call the f****** police, I don’t care”.

When Senior Constable Joe Palma and Constable Christina Jovcevska arrived at the club, Howison walked towards them with a beer can in one hand and schooner glass in the other.

“Mother f****** dogs, you mother f****** mutt, you are nothing but a Chinese c***,” Howison shouted at Constable Palma before she threw the beer can at him.

After Constable Jovcevska grabbed hold of Howison and pushed her against a wall, Howison swung the hand she had the schooner glass in towards the Constable’s face.

Court documents stated “the swing connected with Constable Jovcevska’s forehead” and she immediately suffered searing pain and vision impairment as blood poured into her eyes.

While Howison was held on the ground by both police offers she unleashed a torrent of abuse.

“Get this c*** off me,” Howison roared.

“I hope the c***’s bleeding out like I was. Good on you mutt. I got youse good.

“I wasn’t even trying, I didn’t even mean it. This is f****** hilarious.”

After Constable Jovcevska finished her shift she was flown to Sydney where she underwent plastic surgery to close three of the wounds on her forehead.

Howison pleaded guilty to one count of reckless wounding when she appeared in the Dubbo District Court.

According to documents tendered in court, Howison claimed she was the victim of an assault in Cobar in early 2019. She reported the alleged assault to Senior Constable Palma and believed he failed to investigate and brushed her off.

Judge Gordon Lerve convicted Howison and sentenced her to a two-year term of imprisonment, to be served in the community through an intensive corrections order.

She was also ordered to abstain from taking drugs or drinking alcohol, and comply with any directions given to comply with treatment or counselling for mental health issues.
