A 28-year-old Warren woman who broke into a luxurious regional NSW Airbnb home for an illegal weekend getaway told police she thought the property was owned by her co-accused’s sister.

In court documents police said Teana Hazel Murray and a man known to her drove from Dubbo to Orange on the night of June 4 to spend a weekend away.

After arriving at the property on Isaac Drive, Murray and the man forced a lockbox open, entered the five-bedroom home and started unpacking items inside.

The next day, the man who manages the property turned up and found drug paraphernalia inside.

In the early hours of June 6, the property manager returned and saw people inside the home.

Police were called and when officers went into the home they found Murray and another man inside.

The property manager told police someone had attempted to book the home out a few days prior, but the payment failed to go through and the booking was cancelled.

After a search was conducted, police found 0.01 grams of methylamphetamine, also known as the drug ice, in Murray’s wallet.

A cheque book belonging to another Dubbo person was also found.

Murray was arrested and charged with aggravated break and enter, possess prohibited drug, property damage and make false document to obtain property offences which she pleaded guilty to.

In court documents, police said Murray claimed a garage at the Airbnb property was open when she arrived there and she believed the property had been purchased by the sister of her co-accused.

She said the cheque book was found at the back of a pub and police noted that while no attempts had been made to cash any cheques, the book had been written in with large amounts of money jotted down.

Murray said she found the ice in the back of a car and put it in her purse.

In Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday, defence lawyer Bill Dickens said Murray’s life was in a state of “disarray” when the crimes were committed and she now had more stability in her life.

Magistrate Stephen Olischlager said Murray was entitled to a sentencing discount because she pleaded guilty early and the amount of ice found in her possession was “small”.

“The court accepts that the nature of that activity is, in the context of aggravated break and enter into a dwelling, on the lower end of the objective seriousness range,” he told Murray.

“It’s not like you were entering a residential house where people were living on a day-to-day basis.”

Murray was convicted and handed three community corrections orders for two years, along with $800 in fines.
