Street Watch: Cyclist killed in road accident in Grenfell

A cyclist has died following a suspected hit and run, following a horror weekend on central west roads. Here’s the latest in this week’s street watch.

PARKES

A man will face court after he allegedly stole a truck in the state’s central west in January.

Police received reports a truck carrying round-up was allegedly stolen from a property on Davies Lane, Parkes, between January 31 and February 1.

Rural Crime Prevention Team and Central West Police District officers commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.

The truck was located abandoned in a lane way off Rose St, Parkes, on February 4.

Following inquiries, police attended a correctional facility in Wellington and spoke with a 31-year-old man on March 25.

He was charged with destroy or damage property and take vehicle without owner’s consent.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parkes Local Court on May 9.

GRENFELL

Police are appealing for information after a cyclist died following an alleged fail to stop crash in the state’s central west on Monday.

Emergency services responded to Henry Lawson Way, Grenfell, about 11.10am following reports a cyclist had been found unconscious.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the cyclist – believed to be a 67-year-old man – however he died at the scene.

The Hume Police District established a crime scene which was forensically examined by specialist officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.

Following inquiries, police believe the collision happened between 8.15am and 8.30am on Monday, on Henry Lawson Way, with the vehicle believed to be travelling from Glenelg to Grenfell.

Police are issuing an appeal for anyone who may have seen an F Series Isuzu truck, with a missing passenger side mirror or damage to the passenger door to contact police.

As inquiries continue, police are also appealing for anyone with dashcam footage of the vehicle or anyone with information, to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

DUBBO

Emergency services were called to South Dubbo Oval on Palmer St, Dubbo, about 3.30am on Sunday, following reports a Toyota Prado was well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, however the car was destroyed.

Checks reveal the vehicle and a trailer were allegedly stolen from a home on Boundary Rd, Dubbo, between 9.30pm on Friday and 3.30am on Sunday.

The trailer was later located on Jubilee St.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information about this incident, or dashcam or CCTV from the area is urged to contact Dubbo Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a senior police officer in the state’s central west on Monday.

Orana Mid-Western Police District attended a business on Victoria St, Dubbo, about 5am on Monday, following reports of a break-in.

Police claim they located a man in the rear yard of a business and attempted to arrest him.

The man allegedly jumped a nearby fence and after a short pursuit, he was arrested.

A senior constable received a laceration to his arm during the arrest and was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital for treatment.

During a search of the man, officers allegedly seized a knife and a box cutter.

Michael Rich, of Dubbo, was taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with enter enclosed land prescribed premises without excuse, break and enter dwelling with intent, custody of knife in public place, possess housebreaking implements and hinder or resist officer in the execution of duty.

He appeared at Dubbo Local Court on Monday where he entered not guilty pleas to break and entering a dwelling and possess housebreaking implements.

The 43-year-old man entered guilty pleas to the remaining charges.

He will next appear before the same court on April 17.

CONDOBOLIN

A teenager has died and another was transported to hospital in a critical condition following a ute crash in the state’s central west.

Emergency services were called to The Gipps Way near Burcher, about 50km south of Condobolin, following reports of a crash just after midnight on Sunday.

Central West Police District officers attended and located the utility that had left the roadway and rolled.

First responders tried to revive a male, who is yet to be formally identified, however he tragically died at the scene.

A second male, also believed to be aged in his teens, was treated for serious injuries and transported to West Wyalong Hospital before being flown to Liverpool Hospital for further treatment.

A crime scene was established as specialist police investigate the circumstances surround the incident.

A report will be prepared for information of the coroner.

CURLEWIS

A woman died following a two car crash in the state’s west.

Emergency services were called to the Kamilaroi Hwy, Curlewis, following reports of a two car crash involving an Iveco truck and a Mitsubishi Triton.

The passenger of the Triton – a woman aged in her 30s – was unable to be revived and died at the scene.

The driver of the truck and the Triton were taken to Tamworth and Gunnedah Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has commenced.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
