Street watch: 83yo woman died after two-vehicle collision on Newell Hwy, near Parkes, man in critical condition

A woman has died following a horror crash in the state’s west during the Easter long weekend, while multiple others have been charged with traffic and drug offences. Here’s the latest in this week’s street watch.

PARKES

An elderly woman has died following a two-vehicle crash in the state’s central west on Monday.

Emergency services responded to reports of a sedan and a utility colliding at an intersection of the Newell Hwy and Ashburnham Rd, Daroobalgie, approximately 20km south of Parkes, about 4.15pm on Monday.

A passenger in the sedan – an 83-year-old woman – died at the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services.

The 83-year-old male driver was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and flown to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The 52-year-old male driver of the utility and three passengers – two men aged 58 and 56 and a 39-year-old woman – were also treated by paramedics.

All occupants of the utility were taken to Forbes Hospital for minor injuries with the driver undergoing mandatory testing.

Central West Police District officers established a crime scene that was examined by specialist police.

Detectives have commenced an investigation into the matter.

NARROMINE

Emergency services were called to a home on A’Beckett St, Narromine, after reports of a brawl at a party before 3am on Sunday.

Orana Mid-Western Police District officers attended and attempted to break up those involved.

Police said as officers attempted to disperse the crowd, the people involved became hostile and were throwing projectiles at officers.

Additional officers from surrounding commands attended to assist after reports a person had been injured.

Capsicum spray was deployed and the group left the home.

A 19-year-old man reportedly attended Dubbo Base Hospital for treatment to a wound to his arm and a 50-year-old man suffered a cut to his chest.

However, treatment was not sought.

A number of officers had been struck by projectiles but did not require treatment.

An investigation is now underway to identify those involved.

In a separate incident, police responded to a brawl on Murgah St, Narromine, after 5pm on Sunday.

There have been no reports of any injuries.

DUBBO

A man has been charged with commercial drug supply after a vehicle stop in Dubbo during Operation Easter 2024.

Dubbo highway patrol officers stopped a Toyota Hiace van on Friday about 10.20am for an alleged speeding offence on Newell Hwy.

During the stop, police searched the vehicle and allegedly located and seized three large bags of cannabis containing more than 33.3kg, with an estimated street value of $256,000.

The 49-year-old male driver was arrested and charged with prohibited drug supply commercial quantity.

He was refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court on March 30.

He was issued with a penalty notice for the speeding offence.

In a separate incident, a man was arrested after he was initially stopped because of a number plate issue.

He was charged with drive while licence refused, breach of AVO, breach of bail, goods in custody and a range of other traffic offences.

He was bail refused to appear at Dubbo Local Court on April 2.

WALGETT

Walgett Highway Patrol detected a provisional driver travelling at 96kmh in the town about 9.45am on Friday.

The vehicle was eventually stopped on Fox St in the township in a 50kmh zone.

The 19-year-old provisional driver was issued a $1036 infringement notice and his licence was immediately suspended for a period of three months.
