Two men charged with murder of a Central West man will be hit with an additional charge next week, a court has heard.
Mark Charles Stanley, 21, and Titan Gilkes, 22. were charged with the murder of 67-year-old Paul Jacques earlier this year, alongside an assault with an intention to rob while obtaining a dangerous weapon.
Police are expected to lay an additional firearm-related charge in the coming week.
About 3.30am in August 2021, emergency services were called to a home on Gisborne St, Wellington, following reports of a shooting.
Orana Mid-Western District police found Mr Jacques with a gunshot wound to his leg.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a serious condition, where he died a short time later.
Strike Force Clavert was established to commence inquiries into the man’s death.
Strike force detectives charged and arrested Gilkes almost two years later in a correctional on June 7, 2023, following the arrest of Stanley, who was also at a correctional centre, on May 29, 2023.
The alleged offenders have not entered a plea.
The case will return to court on November 23.
