Parkes: Australia Post employee allegedly stole more than $6k in phones

An Australia Post employee has been charged after allegedly stealing more than $6000 worth of mobile phones which were set to be released on Friday. Here’s more.

A regional post office employee has been charged after allegedly stealing more than $6000 worth of mobile phones from a package in Parkes.

The 34-year-old Australia Post employee allegedly stole the consignment from the post office before placing it in his delivery van about 9am on Tuesday.

The business was alerted that one of the mobile phones – that was due to be released on Friday – was activated.

Central West Police District officers were notified and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, police conducted a vehicle stop on Edward St, Forbes, and arrested a man about 6.40am on Thursday.

A short time later officers attended a home on Federation Boulevard, Forbes, and allegedly seized the other three mobile phones.

The man was taken to Parkes Police Station and charged with stealing property as a clerk.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Parkes Local Court on October 17.
