Operation Amarok: Hundreds arrested following four-day domestic violence blitz

Hundreds of people have been arrested, including men from the Central West, in a statewide domestic violence blitz. Here’s the latest.

Men from the Central West are among the 551 people arrested during a four-day police operation targeting domestic violence.

Operation Amarok is a statewide operation focusing on domestic and family violence offenders with an elevated level of threats to their victims.

In addition to 551 arrested between Wednesday and Saturday across NSW, including Orange, Wellington, Bathurst, Tamworth and Cowra, police attended over 120 schools and spoke to students about respectful relationships and coercive control.

Police attended a home on Glasson St, Wellington, and arrested a 29-year-old man wanted on an outstanding warrant for domestic violence-related offences about 10.55am on Friday.

The man was taken to Wellington Police Station and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and reckless wounding in relation to domestic violence, and police also executed an outstanding arrest warrant with further domestic violence-related offences.

He was refused bail and appeared at Wellington Local Court on Friday, where he was formally refused bail.

In a separate incident, police attended a home on Kenna St, Orange, where they entered a home and arrested a 34-year-old man wanted on outstanding warrants for kidnapping and robbery in Wagga Wagga and a carjacking robbery in Cowra.

He was taken to Orange Police Station and charged with stealing a vehicle, driving while never having a licence, and altering a number-plate.

Police also executed two outstanding arrest warrants.

He was refused bail and appeared at Orange Local Court on Friday, where he was refused bail to reappear at the same court on September 5.

Another man was also issued a future court attendance notice in Lightning Ridge on Thursday after police attended a mineral claim at the Coocoran Opal Fields and conducted a Firearm Prohibition Order and Weapons Prohibition Order, and located ammunition.

A 32-year-old man was issued the notice for possessing ammunition without a licence.

He will appear at Lightning Ridge Local Court on October 17.
