The state’s central west has welcomed a new wave of frontline workers into the region, with three police recruits joining the local district this week.
Orana Mid-Western Police District acting inspector Scott Heckendorf introduced probationary constables Stephanie Barry, Lucy Tusa and Sally Peisley to the Dubbo team on Monday morning.
Constable Peisley told The Dubbo News she had made a tree change move from Sydney and was looking forward to working in a smaller community.
“I’m excited to meet new people and make the community a safer place,” she said.
Constable Barry said she had heard “really great things” about the Dubbo team and was excited to learn more about the role within the community.
The three probationary constables graduated from Goulburn NSW Police Academy on Friday and were part of the first cohort to be fully paid during their study.
Acting Inspector Heckendorf said the new recruits would have an introductory day on Monday before being teamed up with a training officer “to be sent into the wide world”.
“During the first six weeks, they get teamed up with other officers and then, after that, they team up with their training officer,” he said.
“They will be here for a 12-month ‘on the job’ type training, plus doing their university studies while they’re here.
“The more numbers we have here, the better.”
A total of 169 recruits, comprising of 122 men and 47 women, started on Monday across the state.
The Central West Police District, Oxley Police District and Chifley Police District also received three new recruits each.
