A schizophrenic criminal who has been charged with more than 60 offences in the past has ended up back behind bars less than two weeks after he was released from jail.

Dubbo man Naiden Edwards, 28, was arrested again by police on Tuesday after he terrified a 66-year-old woman in her own home.

In court documents, police said the woman offered Edwards a place to stay when he started talking to her outside her Bunglegumbie Road home on September 30 but on October 5, Edwards’s behaviour started to change.

Police said Edwards constantly stared at the elderly woman in a sexual way and made her feel uncomfortable and scared.

The woman asked Edwards to leave her home on October 8, after she received a phone call from her daughter-in-law advising her that Edwards was released from jail on September 30.

Edwards ignored the woman and repeated requests to leave the home.

On October 11, the woman noticed Edwards was laying in her backyard with a large axe in his hands.

After the woman asked Edwards to give her the axe and he refused, she was unable to sleep in fear he would break into the house and hurt her.

At about 5.30am on October 12, while Edwards was still asleep with the axe, the woman walked into her backyard and tried to take the axe off him.

Edwards left the woman’s home later that day and said “don’t come down the street or I’ll get ya” to the woman, who started to cry and shake uncontrollably in fear.

Her ordeal was reported to police on Tuesday and officers found a shirtless Edwards walking along O’Donnell Street in West Dubbo.

He was charged with one count of intimidation which he pleaded guilty to in Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday.

The court heard Edwards is now medicated for his schizophrenia, however Magistrate Gary Wilson said more jail time was the only option for Edwards because he committed the crime in another person’s home while on parole.

Edwards was sentenced to a fixed three-month jail term.

He will be eligible for release on January 12 next year.
