A teenage boy has been flown to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead after his bicycle collided with a car at a major intersection in Mudgee.
Emergency services were called to the intersection on Church and Horatio streets about 9am on Wednesday.
The Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter landed nearby and the boy was flown to Sydney in a “stable condition” with injuries to his leg and pelvis.
NSW Ambulance inspector Craig Hall said the crash took place at the main intersection in town, causing a “significant traffic jam”.
“Paramedics treated the boy for multiple lower leg and possible pelvic injuries by applying splints and a pelvic binder alongside pain relief,” Mr Hall said.
“This incident shows how important it is to wear a helmet.
“Without it, this patient would have been at a much higher risk of a head injury.”
