Mudgee: Boy, 14, charged following alleged armed knife robbery to steal cigarettes

A 14-year-old boy who allegedly stole cigarettes from a business while armed with a knife in the state’s central west has been charged with robbery-related offences.

The teen was arrested about 11.45am on Tuesday following an investigation into an alleged armed robbery at a business in Mudgee on Saturday night.

Police claim the teenager entered a business on Inglis St, Mudgee, and allegedly stole cigarettes.

“As an employee entered, he grabbed the teen’s backpack when he stumbled and dropped his bag, before fleeing on foot – he returned a short time later asking for his backpack,” police said in a statement.

Orana Mid-Western Police District officers were notified and commenced an investigation.

They attended a home in Mudgee and arrested a 14-year-old boy and took him to Mudgee police station.

He was charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon, using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, larceny and two counts of intimidation.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on August 20.
