According to documents tendered to Dubbo Local Court, both Reece and Reeves visited Poplar Tourist Park in Dubbo where they were meeting the victim to “collect money that was owed”.

After “the group made an agreement” Reece has become “irate”, yelling at the victim, who picked up a piece of timber in a bid to defend himself.

Reece has then attempted to punch the victim to the right side of his face with the altercation moving towards the toilet block of the tourist park.

“As a result of the altercation, Reece and [the victim] end up on the ground,” court documents reveal.

The altercation continued with Reece on top of the victim with Reeves “also present and attempting to assist” her partner.

At this time the manager of the park noticed the altercation and attempted to separate the two men before “Reeves has walked up from behind and pushed him to [the] shoulder area”.

“Her hand slipped and struck his head,” court documents reveal.

A short time later police arrived at the scene where the manager provided a statement and Reeves was arrested and taken to Dubbo police station.

It was revealed due to the altercation the victim received swelling and redness to the right side of his face along with grazing to his left knee and bleeding to his right elbow.

Reece was later located walking on the ‘Tracker Riley Cycleway’ where he was arrested and conveyed to Dubbo police station.

On Wednesday, Reece and Reeves were sentenced separately.

Reece’s lawyer Jai Silkman told the court Reece was doing the victim a favour, saying he “instructs me he knew the other person was doing it hard and lent him money”.

Mr Silkman said his client accepts his wrongdoing and that he “went too far”, before appealing to Magistrate Peter Miszalski for a “bond or fine”.

“It was dumb, it was really really dumb,” Magistrate Miszalski said.

But in sentencing Reece, Magistrate Miszalski highlighted the 34-year-olds “new life”, caring for a newborn and “turning” his life around.

He was ultimately convicted and placed on a 12 month conditional release order.

“I’d be really disappointed if you came back,” Magistrate Miszalski said.

A few matters later, Reeves was represented by Naadirah Sathar who submitted her client’s offending was towards the “very low end of objective seriousness”.

Ms Sathar said Reeves saw her partner in the altercation and “jumped in to assist”.

“She was very steamed up … [but] now she’s a mother she’s got the most important job in the world,” Magistrate Miszalski said.

Reeves was handed the same sentence as Reece, and placed on a 12 month conditional release order.
