A $5.5 million facility designed to support cancer patients throughout the state’s northern and western region is planning to start construction in June.
Macquarie Home Stay managing director Rod Crowfoot confirmed his fight for the second stage of the facility will result in a 26-unit oncology accommodation building, featuring a common kitchen, dining, living and outdoor area.
Mr Crowfoot said he is in the process of appointing a builder.
He said patients needing the facility will have “peace of mind” when it comes to receiving long term treatments.
Macquarie Home Stay is designed for patients living across the state who seek medical treatment in Dubbo.
“To be able to have this new stage completed and accommodate new patients for longer periods will really impact the affordability for them,” Mr Crowfoot said.
“We’ve been working on this for a while now, so we’re excited that it is starting soon.
“With the volume of patients coming in for various medical treatments, we often have a full house and do not have the capacity to support patients for longer stays.
“And with how well the city is going commercially - with their ‘no vacancy’ signs up - it can be difficult for patients needing medical treatment.
“Having this addition for us will take some of the pressure off the commercial market as well.”
The new facility will have units available for single patients, two people and families with fit outs to support people with disabilities.
The facility is expected to be completed by early 2024.
