A Dubbo man who caught the attention of police while driving under the influence of alcohol has pleaded guilty to high-range drink driving on Wednesday.

Kerrod Ricky Forrest, 32, appeared in Dubbo Local Court representing himself following his arrest on May 29.

According to documents tendered to court, police observed a Black Holden Captiva travelling east on Cobbora Road, Dubbo, weaving within its lane multiple times.

It prompted officers to activate their warning devices and the vehicle stopped a short distance past the intersection of Myall Street.

Before introducing themselves and identifying that the driver was Forrest, “police immediately smelt intoxicating liquor emanating from the vehicle”.

After Forrest was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result, he was conveyed to Dubbo Police Station for further testing, which included a breath analysis of 0.160 and his licence was suspended on the spot.

Court documents revealed that Forrest was charged with high-range drink driving “approximately 12 years ago”.

In representing himself on Wednesday, Forrest told the court that he had completed the traffic offender’s program as a result of his actions on May 29.

In assessing documents submitted by Forrest, Magistrate Mal Macpherson noted Forrest’s completion of the program and a large showing of support in statements.

However, Magistrate Macpherson told Forrest that despite the reading being just above the mid-range level, the court would have to convict him due to the nature of the matter.

Magistrate Macpherson convicted Forrest, finding him $550 and placing him on a mandatory interlock order of 24 months.

Forrest was also disqualified from driving for six months which was backdated to the date of the offence.
