A wanted man has been caught after allegedly stealing fuel and groceries before leading police on a pursuit across the state’s central west.
Jotham Lalor, 32, was spotted driving a black Holden Barina through temporary fencing in Dubbo about 1.40pm Wednesday, prompting officers to give chase.
Police had earlier received reports the same man had allegedly stolen groceries from a Coonabarabran service station about 11.30am the same day, and failing to pay for fuel in Gilgandra an hour later.
The pursuit was called off on Mitchell Hwy, west of Dubbo, due to safety concerns — but a short time later, the car was successfully road-spiked and stopped at the intersection of the same highway and Meryula St, Narromine.
Lalor was arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station, where he was charged with multiple offences including shoplifting, driving with a suspended licence, and police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously.
He was also arrested on two outstanding warrants for weapons, domestic violence, shoplifting and breach of bail offences.
Bail was refused and Lalor appeared in Dubbo Local Court on Thursday before Magistrate Brett Shields.
Lalor did not apply for bail which and was therefore refused, with his case set to return to the same court on June 4.
