A young couple killed in a tragic early morning crash on their way to work have been remembered as “beautiful” people who moved to Australia for a better life.
Emergency services were called to the Kamilaroi Hwy, near Gunnedah, about 6.30am on Wednesday, following reports of a single-vehicle crash.
Three backseat passengers, Jhon Ericson, his partner Vica and their friend were declared dead at the scene while a female front seat passenger was flown to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition after paramedics treated her for internal injuries.
The 24-year-old male driver was taken to Tamworth Hospital for minor injuries and mandatory testing.
It is understood the passengers had recently moved to the region from Indonesia and were travelling to Baiada Poultry Factory for work.
Mr Ericson’s sister Desy Permata Sari told The Dubbo News her family was “devastated” when they heard the news.
She remembered the couple as “true love birds” who would be deeply missed.
“John was a very good brother, we will miss him very much,” Ms Sari said.
Shocked family and friends from the regional NSW and the wider Indonesian community took to social media after the crash, offering their condolences to the young couple.
“Rest in peace beautiful souls,” one woman wrote.
Another friend wrote for the couple to “live happily together forever”.
Oxley Police District officers have commenced an investigation with the assistance of specialist officers attached to the crash investigation unit.
As inquiries continue police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash – or has any available dashcam footage – to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
