A report has been made to the Department of Family and Community Services after Central West police found a nine-year-old child in the back seat of a vehicle clocked at speeds of up to 170km/h.

Police said Dubbo highway patrol officers clocked a blue Ford Falcon travelling between 165km/h and 170km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Golden Highway, Dubbo, around 9.50pm on Thursday.

Police said they were left in “disgust” when they found a nine-year-old child seated in the back of the car.

The Dubbo man told police he was “just going for a drag”.

He was issued with a penalty notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h totalling $2959 and six demerit points.

His licence was also suspended for six months.

Police entered a child at risk report through the Department of Family and Community Services.

They waited on scene until another person came to collect the adults and child.
