Forbes mum Molly Ticehurst has been remembered as “the best mum in the world”.
The 28-year-old childcare worker was farewelled at a public memorial service in her home town of Forbes on Thursday, with a speaker reading a touching message on behalf of her young son.
“You meant so much to me, but you are in my heart mum and that's where you’ll always be. I know heaven called you but I wish you could’ve stayed,” the tribute read.
“I miss you a lot and I’ll love you every day and night. You are the best mum in the world.”
Hundreds of people gathered at the local rugby club to remember Ms Ticehurst 10 days after her alleged domestic violence murder on April 22.
Many mourners dressed in black and white, while colourful balloons were released in tribute to the woman “who made everyone feel special”.
Soft music played across the field along with a favourite of Ms Ticehurst’s AC/DC.
The young mum’s red hearse, carrying her white casket, was escorted to the public memorial by 60 riders from the Central West Riders group. NSW Premier Chris Minns, NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb and Police Minister Yasmin Catley were also in attendance.
Ms Ticehurst’s devastated dad Tony bravely spoke at the service, saying “every parent would like to see their kid change the world but not at this cost”.
During the eulogy, Forbes councillor Aidan Clarke said people who had never met Ms Ticehurst were “struck down with grief knowing that our Mol isn’t here with us”.
“Molly was a much beloved and extremely dedicated educator. But most of all, Molly was mum,” he said.
“Everything Molly did was for [her son], every breath she took was for [her son].
“If you were friends with Molly, you were family.
“She loved making people laugh and made everyone feel special.”
Ms Ticehurst’s best friend said “if you were one of the lucky ones and Molly called you a friend, you automatically became family”.
Ms Ticehurst was honoured for having the “bravery and strength to leave her relationship”.
“We are so proud of you for having the strength to leave and to seek legal help,” a family spokeswoman said.
“Sadly, too many women continue every day to experience the trauma of domestic violence or violence.
“Your loss has caused immeasurable pain for your son, family, friends … the community of course.
“Molly, we wish you were here to hear the impact you have on everyone to you and the wider community and to hear the beautiful tributes bestowed upon you.”
The service was followed by a private cremation with family.
The streets of Forbes were silent as many local businesses in the small town closed for the day in honour of Ms Ticehurst.
