A multimillion-dollar housing project is set to offer short-term worker accommodation in Dubbo.
Fletcher International Exports’ $2.5 million vision for 152 Talbragar St, earmarked the renovation of the Railway Workers Barracks to provide short-term worker accommodation with a minibus located on site to transport employees to the airport, abattoir and processing facilities daily.
The proposed renovations would include 37 rooms, multiple shared bathroom and laundry facilities, two shared dining rooms, a common balcony and patio and four separate kitchens.
Each room will include its own bar fridge, bedding and storage facilities.
A planner for the project said the proposed development is an important facility to “facilitate a sustainable and productive” rural industry in the local region.
“The proposed facility will provide for a safe and quality temporary accommodation complex, for relevant workers temporarily,” the planner said.
“The proposal seeks to sympathetically repurpose an existing workers accommodation complex in a manner that improves the extent of usability and liveability.”
The two-storey accommodation complex will also include 20 carparking spaces, including accessible parking and a reserved spot for the minibus.
