Plans for the development of a government “work hub” in a Central West town have been revealed.

Dubbo Regional Council has received plans for a $28.6m building in the heart of town featuring four office levels and a cultural yarning circle.

The proposed construction block at 37-39 Carrington Ave would be redesigned for public administration and government employees to enhance a stronger state government presence in the Dubbo.

A planner for the proposal stated there would also be a public lobby area, staff amenities, storage areas, office spaces and meeting rooms on the ground floor.

“The redesigned public administration building will increase the number of government employees in the CBD and result in additional economic benefits,” the planner said.

“The new development is expected to generate additional employment and add value to the local economy.

“The proposed yarning circle and surrounding landscaped area will be accessible to the general public and enhance Dubbo’s cultural identity.”

Documents state there will also be a basement level, internal additions and alterations, landscaping and accessible carparking along the frontage of the workplace hub.

The proposed development would require the demolition of eight trees.

“Pedestrian connectivity to and from the site is provided via Carrington Ave and through the landscaped area linking to Brisbane St,” the planner said.

“Right of access easements will be created to facilitate these connections.”

The site neighbours the Dubbo Regional Council administration building and the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre to the east, the Wesley Community Centre to the south and 2DU Radio Station to the north.

The development is considered suitable for the location and will be on public exhibition until September 24.
