Dubbo: Two men charged after cars torched in Central West storage unit fire

Two men who allegedly set fire to nine cars in a storage facility, prompting a large emergency response, have been charged. Here’s the latest.

Police have charged two men who allegedly torched nine cars in a Central West storage facility.

The vehicles in a storage facility on Yarrandale Rd near Purvis Ln in Dubbo were set alight in the early hours of Thursday morning, sometime before 2am, according to NSW Police.

Officers have since arrested a 36-year-old Dubbo man and a 36-year-old Narromine man and both have been charged with malicious damage by fire.

The accused pair were given conditional bail to face Dubbo Local Court on July 5.

About 20 firefighters worked to contain the fire and limit damage to the facility holding more than 120 vehicles, according to Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry.

“There were a number of exposures of other property under threat,” he said.

Emergency services were called to the blaze about 1.45am and it was contained about 2.30am.
