A couple expecting a baby has narrowly avoided a behind-bar jail sentence after they admitted to supplying illicit drugs for “financial gain” in the state’s central west.
Orana Mid-Western Police District officers and specialist agencies swooped on Mark Manning, 33, and Mikayla Rosser, 27, inside their Dubbo home in June after they learned the couple were supplying cocaine.
Police also found $40,000, believed to be proceeds of crime, and a number of other items during a search warrant.
Manning was charged with supplying prohibited drugs, deal with proceeds of crime and using property as drug a premises.
Rosser was charged with two counts of supplying prohibited drugs, recklessly deal with proceeds crime and using property as drug a premises.
They pleaded guilty to all charges.
The duo faced Dubbo Local Court on Thursday, supported by their families.
The couple’s lawyer said the pair responded “positively” to previous Intensive Correction Order (ICO) sentences for unrelated matters.
Magistrate Aaron Tang described the charges as “serious” and there was “zero tolerance” in the community for drug offences.
He said there were “far too many” people in the community who had been impacted by drugs.
“That is despicable,” Mr Tang said.
He said the pair were “terrible role models” for their children.
“If you were focused on your children and yourself you would not commit these offences,” he said.
Mr Tang said the couple were only supplying for “financial gain”, including money for a potential holiday.
According to court documents, the couple sold a bag of cocaine at The Pastrol Hotel on June 14 and sold five more bags from their home on June 15.
“Surveillance captured multiple vehicles arriving at … Armstrong Cres, Dubbo, for short periods before leaving,” the facts stated.
The pair were sentenced to a 15-month term of imprisonment served in the community from August 29, 2024, to November 28, 2025.
They are both ordered to abstain from alcohol and drugs, unless prescribed by a doctor, participate in a treatment program, to be of good behaviour and perform community service work.
