A boy in out-of-home care has died in a central western NSW hospital – sparking multiple investigations by NSW Police and Health officials.
The four-year-old boy, who was in foster care, died at a Dubbo Base Hospital on Tuesday morning, according to NSW Police.
A spokeswoman said officers from the Orana Mid-Western Police District attended Dubbo Hospital after reports the boy had died about 6am on September 5.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death, while The Dubbo News has confirmed a clinical review will take place by officials from NSW Health Ministry.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner. It is understood a coronial inquest will be conducted, as the boy was in out-of-home care.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said no further information is available.
A Western NSW Local Health District spokesman said they offer their “deepest condolences to the family”.
“As the matter has been referred to the Coroner, it is not appropriate to provide further comment at this time.”
There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing by the foster carers.
