Regional police officers have successfully ended a manhunt following the arrest of a teenager who allegedly stole a marked cop car last week in the state’s central west.

Cruz Cook is behind bars on remand following his fresh custody appearance at Dubbo Local Court on Friday after he allegedly stole a 4WD Mitsubishi Pajero police vehicle in Narromine and assaulted two police officers while he was on bail.

Police issued an arrest warrant for the teenager on Monday and appealed to locals around Nyngan, Narromine, Warren and Cobar for assistance.

Emergency services were called to Cragie Lea Rd, Narromine, about 3.10pm, on September 6, following reports of an unrelated car fire.

According to a police statement, Orana-Mid Western Police District officers located an unidentified vehicle well alight on the train line on arrival.

“Fire and Rescue NSW officers extinguished the fire and there were no injuries reported,” police said in a statement.
