Central West Street Watch: Teenager charged with trying to escape lawful custody in Dubbo

A teenager has been charged with attempting to escape custody following a police operation in the state’s central west.

DUBBO

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after reports an alleged wanted person was seen in the state’s central west.

Police were called to the Macquarie River following reports a 17-year-old boy was seen near the Tamworth Street Bridge about 5.30pm on February 20.

A perimeter was established, and the boy was arrested a short time later on Whylandra St, Dubbo.

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with attempting to escape lawful custofy, stealing a vehicle and destroying property.

He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court on February 21.

BATHURST

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with numerous offences following an investigation by detectives from Chifley Police District.

Police received two reports of a break, enter and steal on February 15 at a Windrayne supermarket followed by a Kelso service station on the same night.

In both incidents, a stolen Ford Ranger utility was allegedly used to smash open the doors to each premises.

The vehicle was later found alight in a reserve on Miriyan Dr, Kelso.

On February 19, police attended a residence at Bonnor St, Kelso, and arrested a 16-year-old boy.

The teenager was taken to Bathurst Police Station where he was charged with two counts of aggravated break, enter and steal, stealing a vehicle, driving a vehicle while never obtaining a licence and malicious damage by fire.

He was refused bail and will appear at a children’s court on Tuesday.

Inquiries are continuing.

A devastated family friend has raised more than $60,000 to support the grieving mother of a 16-year-old girl who was killed in a head-on collision, while her 10-year-old is fighting for her life.

Mieka Pokarier, of the Gold Coast, died on Thursday while travelling to Melbourne with her mum and little sister, Freya, when they were involved in a crash with a semi-trailer in Ballimore, near Dubbo.

The family were on a dream road trip from the sunny state to Melbourne to see Taylor Swift.

Mieka died at the scene, and Freya was flown to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition, fighting for her life with brain injuries, a damaged pelvis and broken leg.

Their mother Kim Litchfield was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital in a stable condition.

Family friend Karleigh Fox wrote on the GoFundMe page to “hold your loved ones a little longer” and “look them in the eyes and tell them how beautiful they are to you”.

“Or at least send the damn text,” she wrote.

BOURKE

Central North Police District officers have appealed for information following reports of “obscene letters” being received in mailboxes in Bourke earlier this month.

A resident received a handwritten letter in their mailbox, while another resident received a clipping from a magazine three days later on February 6.

Both pieces of mail featured explicit adult content.

FORBES

Emergency services attended an aircraft crash on a property on Henry Lawson Way, near Forbes, around 5pm on Sunday afternoon.

Multiple emergency crews, including Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance and Central West Police, attended to find a light aircraft had come to rest upside down in a paddock.

NSW Ambulance assessed the pilot who did not suffer any major injuries.

Crews remained on scene while the plane was examined.
