Central West crime wrap: 12-year-old, 16-year-old girls arrested after allegedly crashing stolen car

Two girls, aged 12 and 16, have been arrested after allegedly stealing a car then crashing during a police pursuit in Dubbo. Here’s the latest in this week’s crime wrap.

Two girls, aged 12 and 16, have been arrested after allegedly being involved with stealing a car in Orange and leading a police pursuit, then crashing in Dubbo.

About 6pm on Wednesday, a white Toyota Camry was allegedly stolen from a car park of a business in Orange.

The vehicle was reportedly driven to Bathurst, before Travelling back to Orange, with officers sighting the vehicle about 10.40pm.

Almost six hours later, about 4.20am, police officers were conducting patrols along Bennett St, Dubbo, when they observed the vehicle travelling at high speeds.

Officers activated the police vehicle warning lights and siren, indicating for the vehicle to stop, however a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle came to a stop after colliding with a divider while attempting to turn - four people were seen running from the car.

A 12-year-old girl was arrested at the scene and a 16-year-old girl was arrested a short time later.

The youths were taken to Dubbo Police Station and charged with being carried in the vehicle without the owner's consent.

Both have been given conditional bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court on a later date.

Investigations into the matter are continuing.

Dubbo Regional Council are offering a $2500 reward for information leading to the conviction of any person who has committed wilful damage, including graffiti or theft of council property.

According to council staff, the public facilities at the Tom Culkin Oval in Geurie has been targeted multiple times over the past few months and is putting the future use of the facility at risk.

Community culture and place director Craig Arms said ratepayers can expect to pay more than $20,000 for the repair if the offenders are not caught.

“To repair the damage these attacks on public property cause, our community are the ones who foot the bill,” he said.

“The vandalism at the Geurie Youth Club means the public art has been damaged, while the shade sail was puy up in place to make the area more pleasant to use in summer, as we come into the warmer months it is now not available to service the area as it should.”

A 16-year-old boy was charged with mid-range drink driving, following reports of a single-vehicle crash early on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to Mitchell Hwy, Dubbo, about 12.45am on Sunday morning, after a car left the road and rolled before coming to a stop.

The driver, 16, and a passenger were not injured.

The driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result.

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis and returned an alleged reading of 0.104.

The learner driver was given a future court attendance notice for driving with middle range drink driving and is due to appear at a children’s court on December 20.

A man and a woman have been charged with a range of drug supply and proceeds of crime offences in the Geurie on the weekend, following suspicious tailgating behaviour.

Dubbo Highway patrol officers stopped a white vehicle for following another vehicle too closely on Mitchell Hwy, Geurie, on Saturday.

Police conducted a search of the vehicle and located $17,290 in cash, suspected to be proceeds of crime, along with methylamphetamine, cannabis, cocaine and methadone.

Police also located a start-up package for growing hydroponic cannabis.

A 43-year-old male of Campbelltown, and a 33-year-old woman, of Wallsend, were arrested and charged with drug supply and proceeds of crime.

Both were refused bail and appeared at Dubbo Local Court on November 12.

NARROMINE

Orana Mid-Western Police District are appealing for information to locate a 27-year-old who is wanted for an outstanding warrant.

Liam Heterick is described as a caucasian appearance, 175cm to 180cm tall with a medium build and black hair.

Police have been unsuccessful in locating Heterick and are seeking assistance from the community.

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District are investigating an overnight break in at a Narromine service station.

About 4am on Monday, a white Suzuki swift pulled up at Inland Petroleum in Narromine before three people exited the vehicle and forced entry into the store.

The trio allegedly stoke fire extinguishers and soft drinks before fleeing the location with the car.

Police checks have revealed the vehicle was reportedly stolen from a home in Dubbo overnight.

COWRA

Emergency services attended a single vehicle crash on the Mid Western Hwy, west of Cowra, after reports of a vehicle colliding into a tree earlier this morning.

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle before she was treated at the scene.

The driver was flown to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.

NARRAN LAKE NATURE RESERVE

NSW Rural Fire Service and National Parks and Wildlife Service firefighters are working to extinguish a number of fires burning within the Narran Lake Nature Reserve, about 70km north of Walgett.

Two fires, believed to have been sparked by lightning, continue to burn uncontained while another one has been controlled.

People around the Glengarry and Grawin Opal Fields areas are advised to monitor the fires over the coming days.

BATHURST

Just before 7pm on November 13, emergency services were called to two separate collisions on the Great Western Hwy, Walang, near Sibleys Rd.

Following reports of a Subaru Forester and a Toyota Prado colliding, NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 20-year-old Subaru driver before taking her to Orange Base Hospital in a stable condition. The 57-year-old Toyota driver was uninjured.

Police have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

In a separate incident on the same road, emergency services were called following reports of a Toyota Hilux and a Hyundai hatchback colliding.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the occupants of the Hilux – a man and woman both aged 64 – before taking them to Bathurst Base Hospital in stable conditions.

The 23-year-old Hyundai driver was taken to Orange Base Hospital in a stable condition.

Police established a crime scene which will be examined by the Crash Investigation Unit.
