An Orange man has admitted launching a coward’s punch attack on a Dubbo police officer after being made to leave a pub, court documents have revealed.
After a night out at the Pastoral Hotel on August 8, Brett Jones became aggressive while he waited outside the venue for a lift to the Forest Lodge Motel.
Police were called to help security staff deal with the 37-year-old and he was told he was an excluded person not allowed to be within 50 metres of the venue.
Jones repeatedly refused to leave the area and was eventually arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station.
After police found a bag with 27.4 grams of cannabis in Jones’s possession, he started to take off his clothes and abuse police.
“F*** you all, all your searches are illegal, my lawyer will have a field day with this you c***,” Jones said.
After Jones demanded to use the toilet, he punched an officer twice in the face.
In a facts statement tendered to the court, which Jones agreed with, police described the assault as a “cowards punch”.
Jones has pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer, possessing cannabis and refusing to leave the vicinity of a licensed premises he was excluded from.
Dubbo Local Court magistrate Gary Wilson has requested a sentencing assessment report and Jones is due to be sentenced on October 28.
