Atanica Randell: in court for allegedly killing 69-year-old woman

An elderly Central West woman, who allegedly killed another elderly woman in a two-vehicle collision has faced court for the first time. Here’s what happened.

A central west woman, who allegedly killed a 69-year-old woman in a two-car collision in October, has appeared in court for the first time.

Geurie resident, Atancia Randell, 71, appeared in Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday after she was charged with dangerous driving occasioning in death and grievous bodily harm and negligent driving occasioning in death and grievous bodily harm.

The incident occurred between 4.05pm and 4.15pm in October 2022 when police alledge Randell was driving “negligently” on Mitchell Highway, 30km south-east of Dubbo.

According to court documents police allege Randell was behind the wheel of a Toyota Camry when it collided with another car causing the death of the driver and “grievous bodily harm” of an elderly man.

Randell and the man were flown to Liverpool Hospital with serious injuries.

Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District, along with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit, commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Following inquires, Randell was arrested and charged at Dubbo Police Station on February 12.

Randell is excused from attending the matter on June 8.
