A former hardware store owner in the state’s central west admitted to using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material from who he believed was a 12-year-old boy.

Alan Harry Treseder, of Narromine, was charged in June 2023, after he spoke to a 60-year-old Queensland male who was disguised as a 12-year-old boy in February the same year.

The 75-year-old man attended Dubbo Local Court on Thursday via video link and pleaded guilty to failing to comply with reporting obligations and using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material.

An agreed set of facts states Treseder started up a conversation on a gay friendly chat line with who he believed was a 12-year-old boy in February 2023.

He sent images of his groin area with and without underwear, pressured the boy to send images back, then told him to delete the images to protect himself.

Alan Harry Treseder will be sentenced in Dubbo District Court on February 26.

However, what Treseder didn’t realise was the teenage boy he was speaking to was actually a 60-year-old man from Queensland.

According to documents tendered in court, Treseder attended Dubbo Police Station on June 14, 2023, and was charged and arrested.

Due to a previous court order, Treseder was obligated to inform police of his Snapchat, gay friendly chat line and Grindr accounts which he failed to do.

During a police interview, Treseder stated he was “horny” and receiving and re-reading the messages “aroused him”.

“He understood he was talking to a young guy, and they were under 18,” according to the court documents.

Treseder will face Dubbo District Court on February 26.
