ARTIST and photographer, Marie Ramos is saving drought stricken farmers one bale of hay at a time.
The Lane Cove resident has teamed up with Buy a Bale charity and local north shore schools to help Aussie farmers in need.
With Spring approaching, she is opening up her studio for family portraits, which will contribute directly to the campaign.
The drive aims to raise over $9,500 per school, or the equivalent of a semi-trailer worth of hay.
Ms Ramos is no stranger to charity work. Inspired by cancer sufferer Connie Johnson, last year she ran the Love Your Sister campaign which raised over $111,000 for cancer research. The artist who has worked with photography and ceramics for over 15 years dedicated herself to creating individual tiles of different people’s fingerprints which she then sold for $50 each.
But this new project is a personal mission for Ms Ramos.
On a recent trip to Tamworth her with her husband’s family, she saw the effects of drought first hand.
“Seeing is different to hearing about it. You really feel the heartbreak that’s going on at the moment,” she said.
“I thought this is the perfect opportunity for us to help again.”
