RANDOM acts of kindness are occurring across the Hills today, as part of NewsLocal’s #DoSomething Day campaign.
The volunteer team at Foster Care Angels rolled up their sleeves today to teach the Hills Shire Times how to pack care packages for foster children across NSW.
“Sometimes these children will arrive at a foster home with nothing,” Foster Care Angel founder kelly Doyle said. “We saw a gap in the charity market and wanted to fill it to ensure that these vulnerable children had something to call their own when the enter a daunting new environment.”
Mrs Doyle is a foster carer herself and adopted three children she cared for as a foster carers.
She said the amount of children that arrive into foster care homes with nothing was incredible.
“We have dozens of volunteers that put their hand up to help us on a daily basis,” she said.
“So for our volunteers, every day is Do something Day.”
Foster Care angels have been supporting children in foster care since 2011 and Mrs Doyle said she and her teams have produced tens of thousands of backpacks for vulnerable children.
“We also provide other services like sourcing computers of foster children, bed in a bag and our recharge retreat for carers and their families,” she said.
An initiative of the DoSomething Foundation, NewsLocal and Your Local Club, DoSomething Day on July 25 seeks to celebrate our volunteers and highlight those who are giving back by spreading kindness in their community.
