WHEN filling up your trolley with groceries on July 19, add in a Shop & Share item to give back to Australia’s largest hunger relief organisation.

Foodbank, in conjunction with Woolworths, have established the Shop & Share initiative to support DoSomething Day on Wednesday, July 19.

Do Something Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of volunteering in our communities, recognising the extraordinary contributions made by everyday locals.

It seeks to inspire people to make a difference and give back by volunteering, making a donation or carrying out a simple random act of kindness.

Purchasing any of Foodbank’s nominated Shop and Share products in the month of July will trigger a one-for-one donation by the campaign’s partners to help vulnerable Australians in need.

Foodbank is a non-profit organisation that acts as a pantry to the charities and community groups who feed the hungry, providing 63 million meals a year.

A whopping 644,000 people across the country receive hunger relief from Foodbank each month but an additional 355,095 meals are still required to help those in need.

About a third of Australians receiving food relief are children and it is estimated that around one in five children will experience going to school or bed hungry.

Shop & Share donations are anticipated to be the equivalent of filling around 3500 shopping trollies full of food.

“Shop & Share provides us with an opportunity to remind Australians about the ongoing issue of hunger,” Foodbank Australia chief executive Brianna Casey said.

“It affects so many families, individuals and children. This is a time to secure additional food to assist them.”

Participating brands for the drive include the Woolworths food range, Ardmona, Devondale, John West, Chicken Tonight, Old El Paso, Vetta, McCain, Helga’s, SunRice, SPC, Primo, Mount Franklin, Continental and Sanitarium.

Foodbank’s generosity to assist people going to bed hungry is made possible due to key partnerships with the food industry and its dedicated team, which includes more than 3000 volunteers.
