WITHOUT their 2500 volunteers RSCPA will not be able to do the amazing work they do around NSW.
During Dosomething Day, we caught up with some volunteers who were spending a whole day at the RSPCA centre at Yagoona, under the corporate volunteer program.
For Katrina and Jonathon, (one names only) who work together, volunteering at the RSPCA is something they enjoy.
“We do a full day’s work here and help with a lot of stuff, including the daily maintenance work,” said Katrina as she fed Mr Dumbledore (bit.ly/2LpTW4v) the friendly goat.
Mr Dumbledore, a cashmere breed, is ready for adoption after being treated for infection after one of his horns was caught and had to be removed.
Jonathan said it was something he would love to do more as he walked cattle dog Bindi (bit.ly/2LOTAAA) around the area. Bindi
Montana (https://bit.ly/2LAFjKN), a friendly ginger cat, is another pet looking for her forever home.
Arthur, who was found wandering down the streets, is good for cuddles and is ready for his new home (https://bit.ly/2JVAV4r).
Karen Heath, the executive manager, volunteer support services, said they will need to double the present number of volunteers to handle the extra animals once their planned expansion is completed.
“We have 26 regional branches of volunteers who fundraise for RSPCA in their communities,” Ms Heath said.
“Some of those came out to help as a part of the corporate volunteer program, have even quit their jobs to either work or volunteer full time for us, having found it so rewarding.”
During any one day, there are between 400-500 animals being looked after at RSPCA’s Yagoone centre.
