Sydney, it’s time to Do Something to make this city a nicer, kinder place.

The first-ever DoSomething Day, to be held this Wednesday will be Australia’s biggest ever celebration of volunteering and random acts of kindness.

Launched by NewsLocal newspapers, the DoSomething charity and Your Local Club, it aims to encourage everybody to pitch in and do something positive in their community.

From cooking a friend a surprise meal, taking out the neighbour’s bin to getting in touch with an old friend or joining a local community group, there are so many ways to DoSomething.

If you’re stuck for an idea, hop onto the DoSomething Day website and generate an act of kindness with the Kindomiser.

Radio hosts Fitzy and Wippa from Nova have thrown their support behind DoSomething Day and have a simple message: “Help out”.

“When you watch the news, you’ve got to know how lucky we are, just life in Australia, makes us lucky. If we’re aware of the opportunities we have, then we can really give back to our own communities to make them even better,” Wippa said.

The spirit of volunteering was never more apparent than last week when thousands of people came together to help those affected by flooding across NSW.
