THERE’S nothing “whisky” about doing a good deed for someone when they least expect it — just ask MasterChef star and head chef at the Shangri-La Hotel Anna Polyviou.
The pastry queen, who is gearing up for the NewsLocal DoSomething Day on Wednesday, June 15, said it was the “simple things in life” that made people feel appreciated.
“When you are not expecting it and someone does something for people, it feels really nice — and we should be doing something nice not necessarily just on the 15th of June, but every day,” she said.
The day is sponsored by Your Local Club.
“If you see someone’s meter running out … put a couple of dollars in there.
“It travels — if you do one nice thing for one person, they’re going to want to pass it on to someone else, and so on.”
This is a philosophy Ms Polyviou tries to live out at work as well as in the wider world, encouraging her team to take two minutes out at the start of each day to share something good about themselves.
“I surround myself with people that I want to be like, so I want that to continue in the team,” she said.
