DoSomething Day 2018

STAFF from Blacktown Workers Club will trade their uniforms for overalls, gloves and shovels over the next week.

They will be getting their hands dirty as they revamp the entrance to Mt Druitt Hospital’s palliative care unit in time for DoSomething Day 2018 on Wednesday, July 25.

The club’s group marketing manager Tracey Russell said the idea to makeover the entrance came from staff and members who had visited the ward.

“One staff member whose mum was in there mentioned the patients needed somewhere to go at that part of their life for a bit of sun,” Ms Russell said.

“It just made sense to give back to an area that makes a real difference to someone’s life.”

The backyard blitz project will see a mural painted on the wall outside the ward, with new grass, plants and a chair to be installed.

Ms Russell said several staff members, artists and the club’s greenkeeping team would spend a few days working on the project, with the hope of it being completed on the 25th.

An initiative of DoSomething Foundation, NewsLocal and Your Local Club, DoSomething Day on Wednesday, July 25 seeks to celebrate our volunteers and highlight those who are giving back by spreading kindness in their community.
