St Marys Rugby League Club has been busy in the lead up to DoSomething Day, with food at the centre of its generosity this year.

Boxes of cereal, juice, milk, bread, fruit and snacks have been collected from staff and members to go to needy families struggling to fill their child’s lunch boxes.

It’s all for Christ Mission Possible’s Brown Paper Bag project, which aims to fight hunger within local schools.

Club marketing co-ordinator Yvette Haines, whose office is packed with boxes full of donated items, said donations would be accepted until July 24 — the eve of Do Something Day.

An initiative of DoSomething Foundation, NewsLocal and Your Local Club, DoSomething Day on July 25 seeks to celebrate our volunteers and highlight those who are giving back by spreading kindness in their community.

The club has also organised a week of free breakfasts for local emergency services, offering fireys, police, paramedics and SES volunteers some respite from their demanding jobs.

“We recognise the extraordinary contributions of everyday locals and we are all about giving back to our local community … by offering free breakfasts to all emergency services personnel, just spreading some kindness,” Ms Haines said.
