A Cranebrook mother was driving along Castlereagh Rd, Castlereagh, last Friday about 3.45pm when a man driving a car passed her and stopped in front of her, causing her to stop abruptly. The man got out of the car and approached the woman, who had her two children, 9 and 6, with her. The man yelled abuse at the woman and made threats. He then punched the driver’s side window and went back to his car and left. The woman then called for help and police were notified. The man’s car was described as a white sedan. A youth, 16, was arrested for allegedly driving a trail bike without a licence and driving an uninsured and unregistered trail bike on Wednesday last week. Police patrolling Cranebrook about 2.50pm saw the boy riding the bike in Sherringham Rd. When he saw the police he allegedly drove on to the incorrect side of the road and travelled head-on towards the police vehicle. He then rode into Farmview Drive and went into a reserve. Police later saw him ride to his home, where he was arrested. He was charged with breach of bail, use unregistered vehicle on road, drive uninsured vehicle, driver never licensed, drive in a manner dangerous to the public.
Police had to negotiate with a man, 25, in Park Ave, Kingswood, for several hours on Tuesday night after he threatened to harm himself. St Marys police crime manager Inspector Barry Vincent said police spoke with the man about 9.30pm and offered him medical help but after a number of hours they had no success. The police tactical operations unit was called in and after some time they entered the unit block and arrested the man without incident. He was taken to Nepean Hospital for treatment and then taken into police custody. The man was charged with several offences, including being armed with intent, affray, intimidating a police officer and resisting police.
Five men approached a boy, 15, and demanded money after threatening him with a knife in High St, Penrith, on Saturday. The boy had been sitting on a garden wall about 4pm when the men approached him and asked him for a cigarette. When the boy said he had no cigarettes the men started demanding money. After constant demands one man took the boy’s bottle of soft drink. One of the men then produced a 10cm knife and demanded money. When the boy refused to give them money the men left. Police were contacted and they searched for the men but could not find them. All five men were described as being in their mid-teens and Aboriginal-Torres Strait Islander in appearance.
A woman, 21, of Roselands, was seen driving erratically in Glenbrook St, Jamisontown, early on Saturday morning. About 2.45am the woman turned left on to Mulgoa Rd and was seen to swerve across two lanes as she continued driving along the road. Police stopped the woman on Mulgoa Rd and she was given a roadside breath test. She returned a positive reading. When asked for her driver’s licence police discovered she did not have one and only had a learner’s permit. On further checking police discovered she had not paid a fine. Police arrested the woman and took her to Penrith police station where she was again given a breath test, which returned a high-range prescribed concentration of alcohol reading. Police issued her with a licence suspension notice.
Police approached a man, 18, while he was sitting in a car in Floribunda Ave, Glenmore Park, about 4pm last Thursday and found a substance alleged to be cannabis in his possession. Police questioned the man and then did a search and allegedly found 1g of cannabis. The man made certain admissions to police and he received a caution.
A fire broke out in a vacant house at Cranebrook about 12.40am on Tuesday. The fire brigade attended the property and found the house well alight. When firemen arrived the first floor of the town house was alight. Damage was contained to walls, floor and ceiling as no other property was inside the residence. No one was injured.
A man, 18, of Springwood, was seen driving his car in an erratic manner on The Northern Rd, Penrith, about 6am on Tuesday last week. He was seen to be driving on the incorrect side of the road for about 50-100m before going to the correct side of the road. He continued driving along The Northern Rd until he reached Cooper St where he veered to the left side of the road, mounted the gutter and crashed into a power pole. The driver suffered injuries and became trapped in the vehicle. He complained of neck pains and had to be cut out of the vehicle by ambulance and fire crews. The driver was taken to Nepean Hospital.
